  • Texas Democratic Congressman Henry Cuellar and his wife were indicted on corruption charges on May 3. More specifically, they were charged with accepting a total of $600,000 in bribes, from both an Azerbaijani government-owned oil company and a Mexican bank, and money laundering the bribes.
  • Governor Ron DeSantis signed a ban on lab-grown meat in the state of Florida on May 1, referring to it as a strike “against the global elite’s plan to force the world to eat meat grown by petri dishes or bugs”. The legislatures in Alabama, Arizona and Tennessee are considering similar measures.
  • On May 1, there was a massive flood in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul. At least 10 people have died and more than 20 people are missing.
  • On April 30, the International Court of Justice, a top UN court, declined Nicaragua's request to issue an order to prevent German weapons sales to Israel, claiming the legal requirements have not been met to issue such an order.
